This is an amazing book for the home gardener who wants to maximize production for his or her tomato plants. After reading ten pages, I had difficulty in believing the author’s claims. However, I reminded myself that Barbara Pleasant, a well-known and exceptional writer of books and articles for the home gardener, wrote a preface to this book and she had nothing but wonderful things to say about the author and his growing system. After I had read the entire book and thought through all of the author’s instructions for his methods, I came to the conclusion that while many of his methods echoed the work of other tried-and-true methods advocated by numerous gardening experts, this author had built upon that foundation with some clever enhancements that truly maximized the production of his tomato plants. None of his instructions seemed questionable. On one hand, I’m not sure that every home garden will be able to duplicate the results this author claims to have enjoyed. On the other hand, if a reader should follow this author’s recipe for success, I have no doubt that the reader will enjoy a harvest of tomatoes unlike anything that person has experienced before. Long after I had finished reading this book, I found myself marveling at its insights. This is a great, essential, book for the experienced tomato gardener. The author offers a new, exciting, insight into the nature of compost. (Yes. Some people get excited about compost.) He, also, offers insights into the importance of proper sanitation in the tomato patch.If you know how to grow 8 foot tall tomato plants, but you'd like to show off and go to 15, this book is for you.It's true the author is a bit opinionated. But, when you're a world record holder, you, really are, right.I would love to see a second edition with large, color photos and much more detail. This book is a gem!
